THE BRIDGE AIN'T THAT WIDE
it’s all good intentions
it’s all in good taste
civil like it should be
when not a word has gone to waste
we drink to each other
to each other's space
you hold me in the doorway
then send me back to my place
the rain just won’t let up outside
the bridge ain’t that wide
I’m outside on my landing
my back against the stone
I feel more like this staircase
than I ever did flesh and bone
I fear I’m using up
the little left behind my eyes
the rain just won’t let up outside
the bridge ain’t that wide
there’s no one I can talk to
who knows how hard I tried
there’s no where I can walk to
to get away from what’s inside
clothes cold and heavy on my back
by morning will have dried
the rain just won’t let up outside
the bridge ain’t that wide
