I WISH, I HOPE, I DOUBT

my private moon is out tonight
fills half the sky
my lonely mind and the night
is making night sounds

I came such a long way to get nowhere but down
I wish I hope I doubt

she taught me words beautiful words
and how little they mean
a story to small to tell
there's no such thing

are those words still beautiful now
I wish I hope I doubt

the electric sign in the night
says the time and temperature
the man who sells magazines
is sleeping in his booth

I don't know how long I can hang around
I wish I hope I doubt
